Once the fabric has been cut or knit into the desired shape, it is then ready to be pleated. The most common way to pleat a kilt is called box pleating, which involves folding the fabric over itself in a series of small squares. This creates a very crisp and professional look. I wear kilts daily, many places in USA plus six other countries as a visitor, since 2017. Nothing equals them and they beat every alternative I have tried. I generally use plain-color kilts rather than tartans, mostly black, and they tend to blend in more that way. But not always: I have noted as a return customer in many stores I am instantly identified and I am sure the kilt is the reason.
